Enable copy of steps in workflow editor

Why is it useful - to enable quick duplication of already modified steps where necessary whilst in the middle of editing or creating a workflow

Who would benefit from it - anyone creating a workflow where multiple duplicate modified steps are required in a workflow

How should it work - whilst in the workflow editor, either a right-click Copy Step function, or a copy button on the editor itself when a step is selected

Simon, thanks for your idea. Please describe how you would expect Paste to work to complete the thought....We actually are designing this right now so would love your thoughts... And it's OK if at first the "clipboard" is only for the open workflow, not across worklfows???

    Linda,

    • move the mouse somewhere in the editor screen and right click "paste", the step should be placed on the mouse position

    • when the mouse is above existing step: replace the step

    • when the mouse is on a connector: put the step into the connector (so it connects to the pasted step and goes out of the pasted step onto the original next step)

Also support Ctrl-V from the keyboard with the same methods as above

It should only support pasting within the open workflow, but it could be handy to support this across workflows.

It's fine if the copy is only for the open workflow at first, because if combined with my suggestion of being able to save, from the open workflow, a modified step as a step template, that negates the need to copy to another workflow. (RPD-I-101)

As to how it would work; whilst in the editor, but not in the properties of the step, select the step, and either -

be able to have a right-click copy/paste function as per the standard Windows methodology

    or -

whilst the step is selected, have a context-sensitive copy option on the workflow editor window, perhaps alongside the Map, Step Chains and Step Templates buttons.

By context -sensitive, I mean that the button or right-click option would only be available when the step has been modified and selected outside of the step properties window.

Please let me know if anything above is unclear.
