I want to use the presence (not the content) of a barcode on a page as a trigger to identify the start of a page group

Some jobs I receive already have barcodes on the first page of each document so that would be a great trigger to use to determine document boundaries.  It doesn't matter what data is in the barcode, just the fact that it is a barcode of some type (usually 2d)
